The recent CFDA Awards served as a fashion playground for celebrities to show off their glitzy style.
Dubbed as the “Oscars of American fashion”, the event truly embodied what the country has to offer in terms of style – eclectic, diverse and predominantly informal.
Unlike in France (think quiet chic) or Italy (maximalist to the core), the American style of dressing is a lot less defined.
This is seen on the 2024 CFDA Awards red carpet, where guests experimented with outfits bringing out their individual personality.
New York City in itself (the ceremony took place in the Museum of Natural History) is known for being a melting pot of different aesthetics, from high fashion to streetwear – and everything else in between.
Beauty entrepreneur Kylie Jenner was spotted wearing a dramatic couture design. It was from the Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2023 collection designed by Haider Ackermann.
Actress Cynthia Erivo wore two different outfits. She arrived in a dramatic Zac Posen dress, then later changed into a Rodarte metallic gown for the inside portion of the event.

For others like actress Blake Lively and media personality Paris Hilton, it was about embodying a more effortless style.
Lively kept it simple with a Michael Kors white dress, plus a coat draped over her shoulders. Hilton chose a flirty beaded rosette frock by Oscar De La Renta.
As for actress Katie Holmes, she selected a simple Carolina Herrera column gown.
Nevertheless, the design stood out for the cut outs and a black bow detail on the back.
The men also had fun with their looks. Actor Danny Ramirez, for example, stepped out in a rather dandy loose-cut velvet suit.
His look by Willy Chavarria (who took home the “American Menswear Designer of the Year” award that evening) showed that it is not just the women who can turn heads on the red carpet.
