Come on Barbie, let's go party ... at Ken's

Barbie's life-sized Malibu DreamHouse is back by popular demand on Airbnb, to celebrate the release of this year’s pinkest summer movie, Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig. But this time, it is her boyfriend Ken who is playing “host”.

That’s right, Ken – played by Canadian actor Ryan Gosling in the film – is “hosting” an overnight stay in his spacious room in the house.

The beachfront mansion in Malibu, California, was listed briefly in 2019 by the home- sharing platform as part of Barbie’s 60th anniversary celebrations. The three-storey house has been renovated in pink and mirrors the set of Warner Bros’ Barbie.

The DreamHouse also has fantastic panoramic views of the ocean.

The company is offering two one-night stays – on July 21 and July 22 – built around Ken, whose room features his wardrobe to help guests channel their “inner cowboy”.

According to a press release, while in the mansion, guests will be able to take a “spin through Ken’s awesome wardrobe to find the best beach outfit”, learn “a line dance or two on Ken’s outdoor disco dance floor”, and take home a piece of “Kendom” – a set of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and surfboards.

Fans in Malaysia will be able to request to book Ken’s bedroom in the Malibu DreamHouse beginning July 18 at 1am on the Airbnb website. If you’re the chosen one, you would need to pay for your own way to Malibu.

All stays will be free of charge – because “Ken couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse”, according to the release.

Barbie stars Australian actress Margot Robbie, alongside America Ferrara, Kate McKinnnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman and Will Ferrell. It opens in Malaysia on July 21.

Alongside this promotion, Airbnb is also set to make a one-time donation to Save The Children. This non-profit organisation provides learning resources and support to children, families and communities to more than 100 countries, to “build girls’ confidence and help them excel in school – ensuring everyone has equal opportunity to achieve success”.
