Head to Langkawi for some 'healing' time

Our lives can sometimes get so hectic that we forget to take a breather from time to time. Here’s your reminder to do so – escape to an island somewhere for a quick mental reset. You don’t even have to travel far, we already have the perfect place right here on our shores: Langkawi.

Reset in nature

From way up high in the hills to down low in the waters, Langkawi Island in Kedah has a myriad of activities you can do amid its calming landscape.

Go jungle trekking, there are also after-dark rainforest walks in places like Gunung Raya and Gunung Machinchang; go snorkelling, swim with the fishes at islands like Pulau Payar and Pulau Dangli; or go kayaking through the mangrove trees, an activity that is usually done in tandem with mangrove tours.

Wildlife encounters are likely not a frequent occurrence for you, so take the chance to learn about animals in Langkawi. Monkeys are aplenty, you’ll encounter them even while island-hopping. Do not try to pet or feed them, though, even if they look adorably welcoming on the jetty.

For families with young children, get your kids acquainted with animals – from domestic to exotic – at petting zoos like Machinchang Petland Langkawi and Kiki Animal Farm. There are also floating fish farms like the one on the Kilim River if you prefer marine creatures.

Get an adrenaline rush

Adventurous souls who find relaxation through thrilling activities, this one’s for you.

When visiting beaches like Pantai Cenang and Tanjung Rhu, avoid boredom by partaking in water sports such as parasailing, jet skiing and banana boat riding.

You may also consider exploring Langkawi on a scooter. Rent one and explore at your own leisurely pace, or join a tour if you prefer having a guide.

Dine on the beach

Unless you’re allergic, missing out on savouring the fresh seafood while in Langkawi is a regrettable act. It’s doubly regrettable if you miss out on doing so while enjoying a sunset view.

The island’s beachfront restaurants range from fine dining to homey. A popular spot is Kapal Layar Langkawi. Located at Jalan Pantai Kok, it is a favourite even among celebrities and royalty, as evidenced by the photo gallery by the entrance.

For an even more casual setting, opt for beachfront cafes. The upbeat music coupled with the soothing breeze will give you a relaxing holiday vibe.

With how varied cafe menus are nowadays, you can go from lunch to tea time at the same place or, even better, tea time to dinner as you watch the day turn to dusk. Ngopi Pantai Coffee Bar, Yellow Cafe and Hidden Langkawi are some good options for a laid-back tea time as you enjoy the sea view.
