Starting Nov 1, Batik Air will be operating its Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu route, which will have a flight frequency of 10 times weekly.
It is one of the three new connections from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 1) that the airline will be launching within the next few months.
The other two are the Kuala Lumpur-Miri route, commencing on Dec 1, and the Kuala Lumpur-Sandakan route, starting from Jan 14, 2025. Both will run 14 times weekly.
“By launching these direct routes, Batik Air is strengthening connections between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak, supporting tourism and economic development (in the Bornean states),” said Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, in a press statement.
“We are proud to be able to offer more options for travellers and businesses, continuing our mission to expand our route network in support of Malaysia’s overall growth.”
The new routes, along with the existing Kuching and Sibu routes in Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu and Tawau routes in Sabah, will allow easier access for travellers flying out of KL to visit the Bornean states.
Miri, the second largest city in Sarawak, is known as the birthplace of Malaysia’s oil and gas industry. It is also where travellers can visit the Unesco World Heritage Site, Gunung Mulu National Park.
Located 200km southwest of Miri is the coastal town of Bintulu, known for Similajau National Park.
Meanwhile, Sandakan in Sabah is where tourists can go to learn more about Bornean wildlife by visiting places like the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre or by going on a Kinabatangan River Cruise.
