In Ipoh, Perak, the “Screamfest 3: School Of Horror” event has returned to Sunway Lost World Of Tambun (LWOT), offering visitors spine-tingling experiences and the chance to capture eerie moments with spooky characters roaming the park.

The programme will run every weekend (Friday to Sunday) at the theme park from 7.15pm to 11pm, until Halloween on Oct 31.

LWOT is targeting 50,000 visitors to its spine-chilling Screamfest 3, which offers a variety of “terrifying” experiences, thrilling shows and captivating performances.

Sunway Theme Parks senior general manager Nurul Nuzairi Mohd Azahari said Screamfest 3 will have thrilling experiences at eight main locations within the “school”, including the science laboratory, library and toilets.

“This year’s theme is School Of Horror because we want to bring back scary memories during school days, such as flying objects in toilets, and scary laboratories for parents to share the experiences with their children.

“We still maintain the scary and surprise elements ... this year, we are also coming up with a scary basketball court, a race track and a hockey field,” he said at a press conference.

He said visitors staying at the Lost World Hotel will automatically be eligible to enjoy the horror and terrifying experience at Screamfest 3: School Of Horror.

Nurul Nuzairi extended Sunway Lost World Of Tambun’s appreciation to sponsors who have played a vital role in the organisation of the event.

“A special thanks to our official ticketing partner, Trip.com, for facilitating a seamless ticketing experience for all guests,” he said, adding that the event is also supported by Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Perak, Grim Dream Studio, Sunway University Cheerleading and Skate City Kuala Lumpur.

Ecotourism in Selangor

Meanwhile, an agreement to further develop Paya Indah Wetlands in Dengkil, Selangor, into an ecotourism destination, was recently signed.

The tripartite agreement involving the Natural Resources and Natural Sustainability (NRES) Ministry, the Selangor state government, and Gamuda Land (Discovery Wetlands) was signed in the presence of Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The agreement was signed by NRES secretary-general Datuk Dr Ching Thoo Kim, Selangor deputy secretary (development) Datuk Johary Anuar and Gamuda Land executive director Datuk Abdul Sahak Safi.

In a press conference after the signing ceremony, Nik Nazmi said the agreement would take effect until July 31, 2037, with Discovery Wetlands overseeing the operational and management aspects of Paya Indah Wetlands.

“The Federal government, through the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia, focuses on wildlife conservation programmes, while the Selangor government retains ownership of the Paya Indah Wetlands land,” he said.

Nik Nazmi said a joint working committee, to be chaired by the Perhilitan director- general, would be set up to monitor the implementation and adherence to the strategic cooperation.

“Matters involving policy decisions will be determined by the Paya Indah Wetlands Steering Committee, chaired by the secretary-general of NRES,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that the strategic collaboration marked a new chapter for the public to discover new aspects of ecotourism at Paya Indah Wetlands.

“I believe this collaboration will ensure sustainability, particularly in the management of mangrove forests. It will also serve as a hands-on learning platform for students, undergraduates, and others,” he said.

Covering an area of 450ha, Paya Indah was gazetted as a wetlands protection site under Section 62 of the National Land Code by the Selangor government on Feb 17, 1998.

A good job

The Melaka Explorace treasure hunt, organised by the state government in collaboration with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), will continue next year, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said the state government will carry on with the hunt in conjunction with Melaka being appointed as the host for World Tourism Day 2025 and the World Tourism Conference 2025, set to take place in September next year.

“I am very satisfied with the success of this programme. Thank you to Bernama for successfully organising this programme ... we hope to improve it next year,” he told reporters after closing the Melaka Explorace 2024 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh recently.

Also present were Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Ab Rauf said various interesting programmes related to tourism would be held to support World Tourism Day and the World Tourism Conference.

“Visit Melaka Year 2024 will conclude on Dec 31 this year but it will be followed by various programmes and tourism activities, with Melaka being the host for World Tourism Day and World Tourism Conference.

“Melaka will use this as a platform to promote the state on a global scale and will also celebrate Visit Malaysia Year 2026 together,” he said.

He added that the Melaka state government would also ask the Federal government to hold the launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 in the state. – Bernama
