While there’s no shortage of trendy vacation ideas for 2025, Australia remains a destination of choice for travellers the world over.

While rankings of the trendiest destinations to visit in 2025 – or those to avoid – land thick and fast, analysis by Wanderlust Travel Awards, as part of its Reader Travel Awards, underscores the perennial appeal of certain destinations, often viewed as trips of a lifetime.

In this respect, Australia confirms its status as a destination of choice. From Sydney’s nightlife to the far reaches of the outback, the country has been voted the world’s most desirable country for the third time.

No fewer than 168,000 travellers voted in this 23rd edition of the Reader Travel Awards, representing more than a million votes in 22 different categories. According to the British travel magazine’s readers, English-speaking countries remain in vogue, with Canada in second place and the United States in fourth, followed by New Zealand, although Japan adds its own unique touch in third place. However, in the category of the world’s most desirable cities, Tokyo leads the way, ahead of Singapore and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

On a European scale, it’s not tourist favourite France that the world’s travellers are dreaming of, but Italy. This is a logical choice, no doubt, as the Catholic Jubilee year of 2025 approaches, raising the country’s status to a flagship destination.

France, comes in third place, behind Croatia.

But the French flag flies high in other fields. Among Europe’s most desirable cities, it’s not Paris that stands out, but Bordeaux (fourth), while Nouvelle-Aquitaine is Europe’s third most coveted region, just behind the Greek and Croatian islands. Plus, Corsica ranks sixth among the most desirable European islands.

Finally, France as a whole ranks among the world’s top 10 destinations for sustainability (eighth), but is the top destination for foodies looking for gastronomic delights, ahead of Italy and India. — AFP Relaxnews
