On May 3 this year, the late Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, wife of the Prime Minister, was honoured with an orchid bred for and named after her. Previously, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and the former Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Siti Aishah had such flowers named in their honour.
On that Tuesday, the orange-red orchid was officially registered as “Mokara Datin Seri Endon” and presented to her in a ceremony when she led a delegation of about 50 Bakti members – the welfare association of wives of ministers and deputy ministers – to the Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (Mardi).
