A JOINT operation by several Selangor agencies had thwarted a water pollution incident on Monday (May 22) that had the potential to disrupt the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant operation.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) together with Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), Selangor Environment Department (JAS) and Hulu Langat District Land Office (PDTHL) had managed to stop the effluent discharge from a plastic recycling premises in Kg Sesapan Kelubi, Beranang at 12.30pm on Monday (May 22).
According to a statement by Selangor tourism, environment, green technology and Orang Asli affairs committee chairman Hee Loy Sian (pic), it was believed that the wastewater discharge flowed into a tributary that might pollute Sg Kabul, 200m from the premises’ location.
Luas identified the effluent as wastewater from the overflowing plastic recycling processes and that the premises did not have a place to store the discharge, resulting in it to flow into the tributary.
Luas had also issued an Order Letter under Section 121(1) Luas Enactment 1999 to the premises to stop the effluent discharge and perform cleaning activities.
The premises will be investigated under Section 79(1)(c) Luas Enactment 1999.
"The Selangor government and LUAS are constantly committed and proactive in ensuring the continuity of water resources in Selangor,” Hee said in the statement.
