Astro got the new season of English football off to a bright start with the hosting of a viewing party for customers and fans.

They watched Premier League champions Manchester City take on Arsenal in the Charity Shield showdown at Piazza, Pavilion Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

Among the highlights, fans got to meet and greet ex-Arsenal, Barcelona and Netherlands international footballer Giovanni van Bronckhorst, along with Liga Malaysia players from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur football clubs.

Presenter Adam Carruthers also hosted Gary Stevens and van Bronckhorst in a live pre-and-post-match show at the venue.

The league season proper is scheduled to start in the wee hours of this morning (Malaysian time) when City, who lost to the Gunners in a penalty shootout at London’s Wembley Stadium last weekend, clash with newly promoted Burnley.

The match of the weekend is the coming together of struggling giants Chelsea and Liverpool, when the Blues are home at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Arsenal are down to play Nottingham Forest today, and Manchester United face Wolves on Monday night.
