Beauty of martial arts unleashed

THE fourth edition of the Ding Feng Cup International Wushu Championship wowed the audience with its showcase of martial art prowess.

Organised by Ding Feng Wushu Association, this contest attracted 650 martial arts exponents from various clubs and associations in Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and China.

The exponents delivered a visual spectacle, showing off dynamic movements and techniques including boxing and swordsmanship.

They all delivered unique and intense performances that had the spectators spellbound during the competition held at the Han Chiang Indoor Stadium in Jalan Lim Lean Teng, Penang.

Outstanding martial arts participants were rewarded with victories in various categories, with Penang Chin Woo Athletic Association securing the overall championship title.

In second place was Long Kun Lion Dance and Wushu Centre of Singapore, while Johor MAD Theatre came third.

Anticipation is already building for the fifth edition of the championship where more world-class martial artists are expected to converge, promising even more spectacular performances.

The then Deputy Education minister Lim Hui Ying (now Deputy Finance Minister) attended the two-day championship.

Lim said that parents should enrol their children in martial arts classes to instil the values of perseverance, resilience and courage.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, who represented state youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi, urged affiliated groups under the Penang Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Association to organise more events to bolster the martial arts movement in the state.

Also attending the event was Penang Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Association president Datuk H’ng Ban Choon.
