2,500 show up for Ampang night run in support of active lifestyle

TO strengthen community ties and promote active lifestyles, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) organised its seventh annual night run – the Geopark Ampang Jaya Night Run (GAJNR).

Formerly known as the Ampang Jaya Night Run, the event moved from its previous venue in Pandan Indah to Jalan Bandar 12, Taman Melawati this year.

Held for the seventh year, the event attracted some 2,500 participants from diverse backgrounds and ages.

The event featured five race categories, including a leisurely 5km run and competitive 12km race for Open Men, Open Women, Veteran Men and Veteran Women, which was launched by MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad.

Highlights included a traditional dance performance by students from SMK Taman Melawati and the prize presentation by Ani to the winners of the 12km race, lucky draw and best costumes.

In the 12km open category race, Simon Rotic, 37, clinched the men’s division title, while Ang Kee May, 35, secured first place among the women runners.

In the veteran categories, Mohd Nazri Ahmad, 40, triumphed in the men’s division, while Tiffany Lee Siok Chin, 43, claimed the women’s championship.

Cash prizes of RM500, RM400, and RM300 were awarded to the top three winners in each category.

The GAJNR was jointly organised by MPAJ and Kembara ES Sdn Bhd, with the support from Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd, KDEB Waste Management, IJM Land, Sime Darby Property and N8 Sports Nutrition, to name a few.

Participating agencies included the Dungun Municipal Council, Port Dickson Municipal Council, Subang Jaya City Council, Selangor Water Management Board as well as Ampang Jaya district police headquarters.

Also present were KDEB Waste Management chief executive officer Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir, Ampang Jaya police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail, Selangor Water Management Board director Hasrolnizam Shaari, MPAJ secretary Julaihah Jamaludin and Hulu Kelang National Democratic Action (ADN) coordinator Juwairiah Zulkifli.
