Assemblyman hopes woodball, pickleball courts will become community hubs
Putra Heights residents in Subang Jaya, Selangor, now have expanded recreational options with the addition of new woodball and pickleball courts.
During the launch, Kota Kemuning assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan – whose state constituency includes Putra Heights – emphasised the potential of these facilities to foster a spirit of sportsmanship within the community.
He hopes the “Laman Woodball Datuk Bandar MBSJ” woodball court would become a community hub in Subang Jaya.
“Woodball is a suitable sport for all ages, requiring only a mallet and a wooden ball,” Preakas said during the launch at Putra Heights Park.
“I hope this new facility will be utilised by both our local community and national-level woodball players,” he added.
The sports courts are a joint initiative of Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and Sime Darby Property (SDP).
SDP chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Idris Abdullah noted the court’s contribution to a sustainable Subang Jaya.
“This is not the first woodball court under MBSJ’s jurisdiction.
“The city council has already established two such courts in Puchong and USJ11,” said Mohd Idris.
In conjunction with the launch, MBSJ hosted the “MBSJ Intercity Woodball Champion-ship 2024” at Putra Heights Park.
Over 110 players from 14 teams competed in three categories of individual, veteran and mixed doubles.
Cash prizes of between RM50 and RM250 were awarded to the top five winners in each category.
Following the launch, Preakas visited the three new pickleball courts at MBSJ Camelia Multipurpose Hall in Section 10, Putra Heights.
He praised MBSJ’s efforts in promoting pickleball through these new courts.
“Sports can unite the community while supporting a healthy lifestyle,” said Preakas.
The public can rent the pickleball courts for RM15 per hour on weekdays and RM18 per hour on public holidays.
Also present at the launch were Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali and MBSJ councillor Mohd Tarmizi Lazim.
