3km walk aims to raise RM100,000 for cancer treatment, prevention

The Melaka National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) aims to raise RM100,000 through its “Neon Walk 4.0 Catch A Smile”.

NCSM Melaka senior manager M. Banu said the fourth edition of the programme would take place on Oct 5 and start at 6pm from The Stadthuys.

“This fundraiser is to help the needy, especially stage three and four cancer patients, as well as babies with early stage cancer.

“Among others, funds raised will ease their burden by financing treatment costs and accommodation for parents taking their children to (a hospital in) Kuala Lumpur,” she said when met at the NCSM Melaka office.

Banu said that organisers of the 3km walk, held in collaboration with Lion’s Club of Tanjung Bidara, had targeted about 2,000 participants.

She said that so far, about 1,000 people had registered for the walk.

“In the programme, we also provide cancer screening with the aim of detecting the disease at an early stage.

“We will also administer free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines for women and men,” she added.

Registration fee is RM50, inclusive of a T-shirt. There will also be a lucky draw.
