MORE than 5,000 runners took part in the first-ever night half marathon in Negri Sembilan, held in conjunction with Malaysia Day at Bandar Sri Sendayan near Seremban.
Organised by property developer Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd in collaboration with Seremban City Council (MBS), the event also saw the participation of a special group of 50 differently-abled participants.
Present to flag off the participants was Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun who commended the organisers for their initiative in fostering unity and inclusivity.
“This event is more than just a race as it is a reflection of our nation’s strength in diversity and our shared spirit of togetherness.
“I commend Matrix Concepts for their vision and dedication in creating such a meaningful platform where people from all walks of life can come together to celebrate Malaysia Day,” said Aminuddin, who also took part in the 1km VIP run.
Matrix Concepts chairman Datuk Mohamad Haslah Mohamad Amin said the developer had always emphasised the importance of inclusion in their initiatives.
He emphasised that unity and diversity were the pillars of a strong community.
“We are proud to have included differently-abled participants who inspire us with their determination.
“This event underscores our commitment to ensuring everyone has a place in our celebrations, regardless of their background or abilities,” said Mohamad Haslah.
The run featured three categories: 5km, 10km and 21.2km.
After the prize-giving ceremony, Matrix Concepts donated 10 wheelchairs and two lawn bowl sets to the Negri Sembilan para athletics teams taking part in the ongoing Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 in Sarawak.
The marathon culminated in an after-run party.
Participants and guests enjoyed performances by celebrities such as Dolla, DJ Hoozy, Emcee Carl, Jestinna Kuan and Danny Lee.
The night wrapped up with a fireworks display lighting up the Seremban sky.
Also present were Seremban mayor Datuk Masri Razali and Matrix Concepts founder and group deputy executive chairman Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock.
