The 36th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship (AIBC) in Shah Alam, Selangor, is featuring the largest number of participants in the tournament’s history.

AIBC president Johnson Cheng, in his speech during the opening ceremony, said a total of 17 teams with 249 bowlers from nine countries including Brunei, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Guam were taking part.

Last year’s AIBC tournament, held in Taiwan, saw 172 participants.

The 36th tournament is at Alam Lanes in Aeon Mall Shah Alam until Oct 31.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the city was selected to host the event in 2024 in collaboration with the Shah Alam Bowling Association.

“The purpose of organising this tournament is to introduce Shah Alam internationally as a sports city and to strengthen ties among the participating cities.

“This tournament also serves as a platform for MBSA to showcase bowling skills while simultaneously promoting Visit Selangor Year 2025,” he said, adding that Shah Alam won overall champion title at the 35th AIBC with 41 points.
