Donning their “uniforms” of crutches, tattered clothes and plastic bag of belongings, groups of beggars converge in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city every Friday.

As office workers enjoy long lunches, a group of about 15 to 20 beggars take up their spots along a 500m stretch of pedestrian walkway from the Ampang Park LRT station to the Tabung Haji mosque.
