IT goes without saying that education is important and with IR4.0 rapidly changing the landscape of the working world, it is crucial for us to learn more about emerging technology and be prepared for the future.
As such, Swinburne University of Technology will be organising the inaugural Learning for the Future of Work forum this month in various locations nationwide.
Starting from Feb 22, the first event will be held at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya, followed by events at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu (Feb 23), Swinburne Sarawak Campus, Kuching (Feb 24), Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu (Feb 26), Pullman Waterfront Miri (Feb 27), and Hotel Jen Penang (Feb 29).
The forum will feature Swinburne’s Centre for the New Workforce director Dr Sean Gallagher as the speaker, moderators Khoo Hsu Chuang and Freda Liu, as well as panellists Karamjit Singh, Gan Bock Herm and Chua Kuang Eu.

The inaugural forum provides a platform for discourse on the future of work, one of the hottest topics that has emerged over the last couple of years. It will delve into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; current and future workforce compatibility; preparation for the future of work; and how man and machine will all come together ultimately.
According to Dr Gallagher, future of work refers to how digital technology is impacting and transforming work where technology is increasingly being able to do tasks performed by humans.
“The challenges are in understanding how work has been constructed over many decades. Work is a collection of task, and these tasks are vulnerable to being disrupted by digital technology.
“The disruption is twofold – the technology is able to do the tasks itself, and the technology is able to reorganise work to lower cost, for example, the freelance economy, ” said Dr Gallagher.
A recognised thought leader on the impact of technology and globalisation on higher education, Dr Gallagher’s work has shaped Australian federal and state government policies.
He has extensive experience establishing and leading research and education initiatives, including as a deputy chief executive officer of the US Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Gan, who is JobStreet.com Malaysia country manager, brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in enterprise sales, customer service and general management.
Chua, a customer solutions consultant with JobStreet.com, has worked with hundreds of companies and conducted numerous hiring solutions workshops.
