Lipis farmers hit by frequent elephant raids

The crops at Lim’s farm have been destroyed by elephants, causing damages that run into tens of thousands of ringgit.

KUANTAN: Several farms and plantations in Lipis have seen frequent raids by elephants but the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) says the responsibility also falls on the operators to mitigate the conflict.

Farm owner Lim Hap Heng, 72, said a herd of elephants had destroyed the banana and coconut plants at his farm in Kampung Gemunchor, Cheka, at least four times over the past two years.
