SUNWAY PACKAGES TO SPUR LOCAL TOURISM

With the tourism industry suffering about RM45bil in losses due to the pandemic, Sunway aims to regain traction with exciting travel packages.

THE local tourism sector has been among the hardest hit with the country’s borders closed off for months, chalking up an estimated loss of RM45bil, but Sunway is aiming to give it a boost by launching several tour packages at its destinations.

With the issues of international travel still up in the air, Malaysians looking for a holiday can still “Cuti-Cuti Malaysia” and benefit from the personal income tax relief of up to RM1,000 on expenditure related to domestic tourism.

The period for claiming the tax relief has been extended to Dec 31 next year.

The government also announced in June that service tax exemption on accommodation and related services has been extended to June 30 next year, as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan.

This means that service tax on hotel rates will be lowered to 0%, while exemption on tourism tax is offered to all foreign tourists staying at any accommodation in Malaysia until the end of June next year.
