SIBU: The state Fire and Rescue Department will be using the September flood in Kapit as a model for handling flood victims in the new normal for the coming monsoon season. Its director Khirudin Drahman (pic) said during the Sept 14 and 15 flood, those affected were cooperative and complied with the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued for Covid-19.
“For the year-end flood, the issue here is how to get the victim to follow the SOP. We tried this out during the Kapit floods and found that there was full compliance. For example, victims at the evacuation centre were observing physical distancing, ” he said.
