Return of Chingay brings joy, nostalgia

A lively modern dance performance entertaining devotees and visitors at the Xing Gong temple.

JOYFUL shouts of heng ah! (fortune) and huat ah! (prosperity) rang in the air as the annual Chingay parade returned in style to the streets of Johor Baru after two years of muted celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

To the delight of devotees and spectators, there were 11 elaborately decorated floats this time, carrying the five deities from the Hainan, Cantonese, Hakka, Hokkien and Teochew clan associations in Johor.
