Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) has issued a statement denying its involvement in the unfinished sewerage upgrading project in Jalan AU3/1 in Hulu Kelang, Selangor, which locals claim are causing traffic congestion in the area.

The project, which started in 2015, has been extended thrice and the latest to March next year, due to funding issues and frequent change of sub-contractors.

StarMetro reported on the issue on Aug 22, citing concerns from residents who wanted the project completed soon.

IWK said the work was under the Sewerage Services Department, which appointed a private contractor.

“We do not have power over the project implementation and completion. Such matters must be referred to the project owner,” it said.Attempts to reach out to the department were unsuccessful while the contractor declined to comment.

An Ampang Jaya Municipal Council spokesperson said the local council only issued the permit for earthworks as the area was under its jurisdiction.

“Works to upgrade surrounding drains and roads are being done to ensure the comfort of nearby residents,” the spokesperson said.

Ampang Jaya Zone 3 councillor Anfaal Shaari said the sewerage upgrading project was one of many by the Environment and Water Ministry, spanning several major areas in Klang Valley.
