Keen to show off all Tangkak’s gems

TANGKAK’S Gunung Ledang, a popular trekking destination, has the potential to be turned into a world-class tourism attraction, according to Johor government.

State tourism, environment, heritage and culture committee chairman K. Raven Kumar said there were plans to revamp the facilities at the scenic site within the next five years.

“The facilities around the waterfall is currently undergoing renovation and the area is expected to be gradually opened to the public starting November.

“Other than physical developments, tourism promotion should benefit the local people too, so I will discuss with agencies how to help the locals generate higher income through tourism,” he said.

The Gunung Ledang waterfall atttraction, located about 15km from Tangkak town and the North-South Highway, is packed with visitors during weekends and public holidays.

Raven Kumar believes that Tangkak, located in the northern part of Johor, has a lot of eco-tourism products to offer.

It boasts vast padi fields, rivers and historical sites, and is also known for handicrafts and delicious food.

“The Tangkak Municipal Council’s 2021-2025 strategic plan shows its commitment to develop local tourism and I will try my best to provide help,” he said.

The strategic plan consists of five main pillars, 19 strategies and 57 actions to be taken in the span of five years to improve Tangkak and the people’s standard of living.
