Women’s organisation to hold Christmas fair

SOROPTIMIST International Penang (SIP) is targeting to raise RM150,000 for its educational and charitable activities through its Christmas fair on Nov 5-6 at Gurney Paragon.

SIP president Harriet Lim said the organisation raised funds annually for its ongoing projects such as the SIP Education Fund, which helps students complete their tertiary education, and Blossom Women and Girls, which empowers candidates through teaching them new skills.

At the fair, there will be 60 vendors, in addition to SIP’s Bake Sale featuring some of the best bakers in Penang.

“There will be a raffle with over 100 prizes, including an RM22,000 diamond necklace from Amee Phillips, jewellery from Vanessa Diamonds, complimentary stays at Macalister Mansion and Blue Mansion in Penang and Dayang Bay Resort in Langkawi, and dinners at Whitegrass, a one-star Michelin restaurant in Singapore,” said Lim.

This month, SIP is holding two classes at the club’s headquarters in Tanjung Bungah for single mothers to learn how to weave baskets from reused packaging.

SIP is part of Soroptimist International, a 100-year old global entity of 75,000 women volunteers in 132 countries working to improve the lives of women and girls. — By DAVID TAN
