Zahari: More licences being approved for fishermen, to boost seafood inventory in Mersing and Endau.
Supply of fresh produce and seafood is sufficient in Johor despite weather changes and the impending monsoon season.
State agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip said the state government was also expecting prices of these items to remain the same due to the steady supply.
“This is because we have implemented several initiatives to ensure the consistent supply of perishables in the market.
“The Fisheries Development Authority and Fisheries Department have also stocked up on various fishes and seafood products for specific occasions and this includes during the monsoon season.
“As for agricultural produce, we have ongoing collaboration programmes to increase the sales and production volume to cater to the people’s needs,” said Zahari.
He said the Fisheries Department was in the process of approving more licences for fishermen, to boost their seafood inventory in areas such as Mersing and Endau.
“It is also part of Johor government’s plans to make Segamat a hub for agricultural products, besides improving agricultural and animal farming activities in Kulai and Desaru,” he added.
The Meteorological Department forecasts the north-east monsoon season to last from November to March next year.
Johor is among the states expected to experience wet weather.
