MOTORISTS using the untarred road between Chamek in Paloh and Kangkar Baru in Yong Peng will soon have a more smoother and shorter drive.

Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon said Johor has allocated RM3.77mil to upgrade the 10.2km stretch, which includes tarring the road.

“This will shorten the 45-minute journey (one-way) between Chamek and Kangkar Baru to just 15 minutes.

“Foundation works have already begun and we expect the road to be completed by February next year.

“The construction will also include the installation of a better drainage system to extend the lifespan of the road,” said Ling, who is also Johor health and unity committee chairman.

He said concerns about the road were highlighted by the constituents when he visited the area with Paloh assemblyman Lee Ting Han after the conclusion of the Johor state election in March.

“Smallholders have been using the road for daily travel for more than 10 years and it was their hope to have it repaired.

“However, we decided to take it further by submitting an application to the state government to have the road upgraded and tarred for the people’s comfort.

“Once completed, it will not only provide convenience for smallholders to transport their agricultural products but also for other road users who will get to travel easily between the two constituencies,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lee, who is Johor investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman, said the new road would have two lanes with a width of 4.2m.

“There will be a 0.5m road shoulder on both sides of the road and the project does not involve any land acquisition.

“The state government, led by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, will continue giving focus to development projects in rural areas,” he added.
