Foundation gives RM1.43mil to building new facilities

LOCAL communities in Sarawak have received RM1.43mil in donations from a non-profit organisation for the construction of a mosque, multipurpose hall and longhouse.

OBYU Foundation board of trustees chairman Datuk Dr Hatta Solhee presented the donations to state Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah in Kuching.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblyman, represented Kampung Sungai Sut Tengah in Dalat which received RM500,000 for the construction of Masjid Al-Fateh that will have a 600-person capacity.

Meanwhile, a representative from Kampung Usahajaya in Sibu, received RM725,660 for the construction of a multipurpose hall, which will serve as a venue for weddings and sports activities in addition to becoming an evacuation centre.

The foundation also contributed RM200,000 towards the construction of an 11-door longhouse at Nanga Siding in Sungai Poi, Kanowit.

“Yayasan OBYU is happy to provide some support to communities by contributing towards better homes and facilities.

“It is our way of giving back to the community,” said Dr Hatta.

Set up to implement and execute corporate social responsibility and philanthropic initiatives, OBYU Foundation has been contributing to education, sports and religious causes, and assisting underprivileged communities since 2018.

Recent contributions include RM1mil to the Sarawak disaster management committee’s fund to fight Covid-19 in the state.

The foundation has also donated towards the setting up of an exam hall at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and a new school block at SK Abang Ali, Sibu, in addition to sponsoring computers for Sarawak Orphans Welfare Board (Peryatim).

OBYU Foundation is also supporting the development of a 3,850-capacity mosque at Eco Ardence in Shah Alam, Selangor.
