MCA eager to win back Selayang seat

Selayang MCA is all geared up for the 15th General Election (GE15) as its war room was launched by MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

The war room, located at Wisma MCA Selayang, Taman Jati, Rawang, Selangor, also saw members of other Barisan Nasional component parties such as Selayang Umno and MIC attending the event to show support.

Chong said the candidate contesting the Selayang parliamentary seat would ultimately be decided by party leaders.

However, Selayang MCA would like Chan Wun Hoong to be considered as a potential candidate for the seat.

He said MCA wanted to win back the Selayang parliamentary seat, which it lost since 2008.

“Among our focus on issues this time are water shortage and flood mitigation in the area.

“When the Election Commission announced the election date, the stock market rose and this is a sign that investors and business community want stability.

“In Johor and Melaka, there is better stability in governance today and a lot more investment has poured into Johor since Barisan came into power,” Chong explained, adding that the country needed economic stability today.

Barisan’s strength, he said, was its component parties.

“We feel strongly that we can win back Selayang because our component parties Umno and MIC are strong here.

“The business community also tells us that they have tried to work with all the parties and the one that has a clearer economic direction is Barisan,” he added.

Chong said Barisan and MCA planned to field younger candidates for GE15.

“We hope to have candidates below the age of 30 too.

“We will have a wide range of candidates as there has to be a balance of the young and the experienced.

“I think 70% of Barisan’s candidates will consist of young people,” he said.

He said for this election, the focus should be on comparing policies, track records and manifestos.

“Voters must keep these in mind when casting their votes,” Chong said.
