THERE is a need for the Klinik Komuniti Saujana Utama to be expanded and for a full-time family medicine specialist to be stationed there, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
“It was established as Klinik 1Malaysia some time back, but was later rebranded as a community clinic,” he said during a visit to the clinic in Taman Saujana Utama 3, Sungai Buloh on Tuesday (Nov 8).
“Community clinics were not established to provide services for mothers and children (maternal and paediatric care), though this particular one does.
“However, a family medicine specialist has to travel here from Klinik Kesihatan Ijok (whenever such services are required).”
If elected as MP and appointed as Health Minister again, Khairy said he would ensure that a proper and bigger clinic is built in Saujana Utama to cater to the local community.
“Even though there are private clinics nearby, many prefer government clinics run by the Health Ministry,” said the Barisan Nasional candidate for Sungai Buloh.
“It is clear that the community clinic is much needed here. Besides expanding the space, the facility should be upgraded into a klinik kesihatan (health clinic) so family medicine specialists can be permanently stationed here.”
On Barisan’s Perancangan Amal dan Usaha (Padu) manifesto for the 15th General Election, Khairy said the commitment to increase allocation for the public health system to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) was good as it was the same figure he proposed as Health Minister two months ago.
Khairy is locked in a seven-way fight for the parliamentary constituency. The other contenders are Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan (Pakatan Harapan), Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Akmal Mohd Yusoff (Pejuang), Ahmad Jufliz Faiza (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) as well as Independent candidates Nurhaslinda Basri and Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long Alsagoff.
