THE first two things on Oh Tong Keong’s agenda if elected as Bayan Baru MP are to create better facilities and reduce traffic jam.
"We need to introduce more parking facilities and better infrastructure.
"If we can build a government hospital here, the constituents need not drive all the way to town in case of an emergency," said the 54-year-old.
Oh, who is Gerakan deputy president and contesting under Perikatan Nasional in the 15th General Election, said more spaces should be opened for hawkers to further boost their livelihood.
Bayan Baru incumbent Sim Tze Tzin plan to open a centre to help Bayan Baru folk, especially youths, find quality jobs in the constituency.
"I want to make Bayan Baru a place where people can live, work and play, with great public transport, community spaces for all, affordable housing and a space for entertainment.
"We need to focus on better education as well and I want to make sure everything can be done here in Bayan Baru, from kindergarten to higher studies," said the 46-year-old candidate from PKR.
Barisan Nasional candidate Saw Yee Fung is motivated to push on following the encouraging response from the people she meets.
"It motivates us to speak to the people and share the changes that I want for the people of Bayan Baru," said the first-time candidate from MCA.
Saw's eight-point manifesto involves issues faced in Penang such as lack of proper facilities for part-time workers who need a space to study.
"I also want to have mobile trucks to help those who want to start a business," said the MCA spokesperson.
Saw said she would also look into ways to eliminate flooding in the constituency.
The other three candidates in the six-cornered fight are Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Ravinder Singh, 80, Warisan’s (Jeff) Ooi Chuan Aun, 67, and Independent candidate Kan Chee Yuen, 49.
