Chance to venture out to flea markets

The Lorong Belakang flea market in Cyberjaya is one of the venues chosen by entrepreneurs to sell their goods.

KLANG Valley is well known for its colourful flea markets that offer a fun and unforgettable shopping experience.

Kuali, along with Anchor Food Professionals Malaysia & Brunei, is now giving home bakers and cooks a chance to sell their wares at these weekly flea markets through the “Bakers on the Go” programme, without having to bear the high cost of booth rental.

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kuali established The Batter Place (TBP), a community of home-based food-and-beverage business owners, with the vision to give them an online platform to grow as entrepreneurs.

Businesses were listed on the Kuali website and app, and customers interested in their home-baked and home-cooked food could order with just a click of a button.

Members of The Batter Place would also be given a shoutout on Kuali’s social media platforms.

But most importantly, by joining The Batter Place, members would gain access to business expansion opportunities.

Now that the country is transitioning to the endemic stage of Covid-19, the Bakers on the Go programme is encouraging these businesses that have been operating online for the most part, to gain traction on the ground as well.

This will give home-based entrepreneurs the opportunity to build a network with more customers and other business owners offline.

Thanks to the good response to the programme, Bakers on the Go – which started in September – will be holding its launch on Nov 26 at Lorong Belakang, Cyberjaya, from 5pm.

At the venue, an estimated 25 home-based bakers and cooks will be selling their homemade goods.

Among those who ventured offline for the first time were Junaidah Mohamat of Dot dan Din, who picked Lorong Belakang, Cyberjaya, for her flea market excursion in September, and Kausalya Devi of The Happy Vanilla Bean, who joined a Pasar KL weekly flea market recently.

Nurul Hidayah Basri of Princess Dack, who just joined The Batter Place, can now be seen selling homemade delicacies at various Klang Valley flea markets.

When approached at her latest outing in KL East Mall Bazaar earlier this month, Nurul Hidayah was delighted to share her experience.

“Bakers on the Go is a great programme for entrepreneurs like me who would love to get exposure both online and offline, but have previously lacked the resources to achieve this on our own.

“It has boosted the Princess Dack brand,” she added.

If you are a home-based baker or cook, we want to support you.
