FLOOD victims in Sepang are unable to travel back to their hometowns to vote for the 15th General Election on Saturday (Nov 19).
Heavy rain early Thursday (Nov 17) caused flooding in several parts of the constituency, including Kampung Sri Tanjung, Taman Dengkil, Kampung Cemperai, Kampung Sungai Buah, Kampung Semarang, Kampung Lalang and PPRT Ampar Tenang.
About 200 families have been evacuated to six temporary evacuation centres – four in the Dengkil district and two in Labu.
The busiest evacuation centres was SMK Dengkil, where 86 families were seeking shelter as of noon Friday (Nov 18).
Among those unable to practise their right to vote is Nurazrina Anuar, 28 from Kampung Cemperai.
"My husband and I are from Pasir Mas. We had planned to travel to Kelantan Friday (Nov 19) but we are stuck at the centre.
"We just moved into the village eight months ago. This is my first time experiencing floods and it's very difficult. My house is in a mess!
"I regret not being able to go back to vote but I am also glad to have been around when the flood happened as I managed to save some of my belongings," she said.
Norhamizah Abdul Halim, 30 was also sad about having her travel plans dashed.
"I need to be in Johor while my husband needs to be in Melaka to vote.
"I will definitely not make it to Ulu Tiram but maybe my husband will be able to travel on his own –while I take care of my children and clean the house," she said.
However, those voting in the Klang Valley said that they would go out to vote.
Noreraafazira Noorezan, 29, from Kampung Sri Tanjung, said that her voting centre was only five minutes' drive away.
"I have a motorbike and will head out in the morning to cast my vote," she said.
Similarly, Gazara Halil, 48 from Kampung Semarang said he and his wife would definitely be voting.
"My wife will vote in Sepang while I will be heading to Bangi," he said.
