Neon pink is the order of the day at Mixology Pink Bar, a trendy place that injects some colour into Petaling Jaya’s nightlife scene.

The bar is an expansion of Michsology, a poke bowl restaurant on the ground floor, as its owners wanted patrons to have the option to while the night away over music and hand-crafted cocktails on the upper level.

It serves beer and uses pandan-infused gin for most of its cocktails. At the same time, it offers more than 30 types of cocktails along with music curated by DJ Ken.Its signature cocktail – Awesome Boi – is a pandan-infused gin cocktail with Aperol, asam boi powder, lemon syrup, sugar syrup and lime topped with pandan leaves and served with asam boi on the side.

With a huge peacock mural right smack in the middle of the bar, its decorations are a play on the bird’s colours and peacock motifs.

Expect local ingredients like gula melaka, asam boi and guava in their cocktails striving to balance out a selection of alcohol such as gin, vodka, whisky and rum.

Cocktail highlights here include Baba’s Secret – a mix of dark rum, Chambord, Thai tea and fresh milk – and Peacock Cocktail, which is a mix of gin, lychee, lemongrass, Thai tea and Blue Curacao.

Tickets Bar KL

This cocktail bar thrills with themes and flavours that change annually.

Situated next to sister brand Maillard Grill at Republik Damansara Heights in Kuala Lumpur, the stage this year has been set for Ima-GIN-ation, which takes one on a refreshing gin-based spiced up cocktail adventure.

In 2019, the theme was Mague, which revolved around Mezcals, while 2020 showcased the sake in Osaka Nights.

Utopia.Utopia.

Like every other speakeasy bar, Tickets’ entrance is unassuming as visitors are greeted with an office-type desk, a computer and a “Ticket Management” sign.

Once you find your way in, the cocktails on offer are inspired by classics from around the world.

Each drink has been carefully curated and sprinkled with an idea that reflects its theme for the year.

Try one of its signatures, Before Sun Cocktail, which comes with mango distillate gin, triple sec, house-made cinnamon honey, lemon juice and house-made mango puree, served with mint sprig and candied mango slice.

Or sip on Rain in Venus – made from jackfruit distillate gin, clarified lemon juice, carbonated genmaicha tea and sage honey, served with house-made jackfruit ice cream.

On polling day tomorrow, the bar will treat visitors with ink-marked index fingers to a complimentary shot.

Located at G05A, Ground Floor, Republik Damansara, 1, Jalan Medan Setia 1, Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, the bar opens from 6pm to 2am (Tuesday to Sunday).

For reservations, call 03-7622 8765.

The Rebel Penguin of Funky Town

The Rebel Penguin of Funky Town pays homage to the 1980s.The Rebel Penguin of Funky Town pays homage to the 1980s.

Whimsy is this bar’s middle name.

Inspired by the 1980s, a decade which has been often regarded as the greatest to some but referred to as the “dark ages” by those in the bar industry because of the explosion of bright neon colours and artificial-tasting drinks, The Rebel Penguin of Funky Town gives these misunderstood drinks a touch of modern flair and playfulness.

Expect bold colours when you step into the bar and sample all 21 of its cocktails complete with distinctive ingredients, flavours, glassware and garnishes.

Permanent Surprise.Permanent Surprise.

A must-have here is Permanent Surprise, which features bak kwa-infused whisky with peanut butter foam and milk oolong tea served in a doughnut-shaped cup.

Meanwhile, Somewhere Over The Rainbow pairs mango-infused gin with Indian borage that is served over homemade purple yam ice cream rather than a typical cube of ice.

The bar also hosts private parties and events.

Enjoy 15% off your total bill during the bar’s “Groovy Hour” promotion from Wednesday to Friday, 5pm to 8pm.

Located at Lot 1.24 (1st Floor), Wisma Cosway, No.88, Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, the bar opens from 5pm to 11pm (Wednesday and Thursday) and 5pm to midnight (Friday and Saturday).

For reservations, call 011-2506 3313 or message via Instagram @therebelpenguin.
