WELL-WISHERS contributed generously during the Crime Consciousness and Public Safety Society’s (CCPSS) Patron’s Night in Penang.

Several large donations swelled the final sum to RM111,888, which will be channelled to Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak’s TYT Charity Foundation.

The foundation provides assistance to deserving individuals and organisations in the state through various programmes and activities.

CCPSS chairman Datuk Mohamad Anil Shah said every sen would be put to good use in aiding Ahmad Fuzi’s mission to help the needy.

He said this was in line with the society’s main aim of serving the community.

Established in December 2020, the society’s motto is “Consciously Curbing Crime”.

Mohamad Anil pointed out that by tackling the problem of poverty, many social ills could also be addressed.

Citing an example, he said: “There’s this old man who walks along the Batu Ferringhi beach every evening to pick up stranded starfish and return them to the sea.

“He said a schoolboy once asked him, ‘why bother, because they keep washing ashore’.

“The man replied that, while he could not save every starfish, at least those he helped would survive.

“It’s the same for our community. There’s so much to be done. But if we can just help a few people, it would create a better future.”

Event organising chairman Seah Kok Heng said the fundraiser, which was held at a hotel in George Town, was a good opportunity for people to socialise and contribute to a worthy cause.

TYT Charity Foundation chief executive officer Datuk Seri Rozali Mohamud witnessed the handover of cheques.

Ahmad Fuzi later presented certificates of appreciation to donors.

The biggest donations for the night came from Datuk Richard Goh and Datuk Seri Ong Keow Leng, who each contributed RM30,000.

Major (APM) David TS Chua contributed RM20,000 while Jasper Ooi chipped in with RM10,000.

Keeping guests entertained throughout the night were a series of musical and dance performances by the Milky Way Chinese Orchestra, Phor Tay and Phor Tay Private High School students, Royal Eagle Entertainment and Jinelle Wong Jin Ern.

Also present was Ahmad Fuzi’s wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor.
