Corporation recruits more than 2,700 youth volunteers

Soon: Programmes being planned to improve skills and knowledge of youth volunteers.

A TOTAL of 2,732 youths have been recruited as volunteers under the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).

Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said 1,452 of them were males while there were 1,280 females as of Oct 31.

“The volunteer activity categories include environment, natural disaster, charity works, first aid, education, arts and culture as well as sports,” he said in reply to a question from Lim Siew Khim (PH-Sungai Pinang) during the state assembly meeting in Lebuh Light.

“There are various interesting programmes being planned to improve the skills and knowledge of the youth volunteers including disaster drill, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) practical, leadership and basic safety programmes,” Soon added.

Meanwhile, Daniel Gooi (PH-Pengkalan Kota) said the Penang Football Club (Penang FC) management was committed to improve the club’s performance for the upcoming season.

Gooi, who is also one of the Penang FC board of directors, said the unsatisfactory performance in the Super League season had been a bitter experience and lesson for the management.

“Appropriate action has been and will be taken, including establishing a special committee together with the technical team to overcome issues such as player selection, player performance and physical fitness, marketing and sponsorship as well as setting the relevant standard operating procedures to ensure the management of Penang FC can function properly,” he said.
