Batang Kali landslide: Hospital volunteer on standby to lend moral support


Mok has been on standby since 11am Dec 16 in case any friends or family members need information about the landslide victims.

IN TIMES of crisis, a listening ear or helping hand are always welcome. At Hospital Selayang, volunteer Mok Check Boon has been on standby since 11am Friday (Dec 16) morning in case any of the Batang Kali landslide victims' friends or family members need information.

"I've received eight calls and enquiries so far," he said when met at the hospital.

"Many of the callers are in a distressed state.

"There is a feeling of hopelessness because they do not know where to locate their loved ones.

"They are asking why no proper centre has been set up to list down the names of the victims caught in the landslide," Mok added.

He noted that it would be hard to do so at the moment because the victims had been sent to different hospitals and the priority was to treat them first.

"We have volunteers on standby in Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and the Gohtong Jaya police station," he said, adding that he believed the identification of the victims will be done at the Gohtong Jaya police station.
