New food court to be ready in time for Ramadan

THE Dataran Damai Jaya “Makan Sini” food court is expected to open for business in the first quarter of 2023, just in time for Ramadan which is expected to fall on March 23.

The tender for the project will be up for bidding this month, according to Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) Selesa Jaya Zone councillor Tambi Omar Latip.

“The project is estimated to cost RM1.5mil and there will be 15 kiosks for operators,’’ he said when met after the MBIP full board meeting.

The multi-purpose food court will also feature a playground, indoor game room and gymnasium.

“Priority will be given to licensed hawkers currently doing business in Selesa Jaya and they have to follow regulations imposed by MBIP.

“They are not allowed to lease out the licence to a third party and the council has the right to revoke their licence.

“They are also not allowed to put up extensions at their stalls including canopies.

“There will be standard signage for every stall and centralised food waste disposal for them,’’ he said, adding that chairs and tables would be provided by the city council.

Meanwhile, Skudai Baru Zone councillor Lim Soon Hai said a proposal had been submitted to MBIP for a similar food court to be built in Jalan Hang Lekiu 3.

Lim said a plot had been identified and if the project was to be approved, it would be completed either in the first or second quarter of 2023.

There will be 30 lots for hawkers with priority given to those from Skudai Baru, Jalan Melawati and Jalan Hang Kasturi.

On a separate matter, he said, RM120,000 would be spent to build a new children’s playground in Jalan Hang Lekiu 3. It is expected to be ready in the first quarter of next year.

Lim said another children’s playground costing RM150,000 would be built in the same area in the middle of next year.
