Ampang sinkhole caused by pipe jacking works

THE sinkhole which appeared along Jalan AU3 in Taman Keramat, Ampang Jaya on Thursday (Dec 29) was triggered during pipe jacking works and the contractors will need to submit a detailed incident report, says the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).

In a statement, MPAJ president Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said that the sinkhole appeared at one of the sites for a sewerage project and was caused by instability in the ground structure.

“Following the incident, Puncak Niaga Construction Sdn Bhd (PNCSB) was instructed to carry out road repair works immediately, as the incident could pose a danger to road users.

“PNCSB has also been asked to submit a detailed report to the MPAJ about the incident,” he said Friday (Dec 30).

He added that repair works were completed at 8.30pm last night and the road was opened to motorists soon after.

According to the PNCSB, the works to repair the road would be carried out once pipe-laying works were fully completed.

MPAJ added that the sewerage project is initiated by the Environment and Water Ministry (now Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry) and the project is being implemented by the Sewerage Services Department.

It was reported that no vehicles or buildings were affected and no one was injured.
