THE newly reopened KL Lifestyle Art Space (KLAS) in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur is hosting the first solo exhibition by Noor Fuji Anggara, a 26-year-old artist who was born in Kuala Selangor.

Mediate Communications Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Gary Thanasan said, “In line with our relocation from Jalan Utara in Petaling Jaya and new banner KLAS Plus, we are embarking on a paradigm shift to highlight more works by young emerging artists.

“Fuji studied fine arts at UiTM and is on a journey to discover his own artistic identity.

“He is inspired by Malaysian and foreign artists such as Neo Rauch, Francis Bacon, Datuk Ibrahim Hussein, Khalil Ibrahim and Yusof Ghani.”

Fuji’s exhibition called “Margatulus” opened on Dec 8 at the newly redesigned gallery, which is devoted to curating and exhibiting modern art by Malaysian and international talents.

The Indonesian word marga refers to a clan, family or community while tulus means sincerity, honesty and wholeheartedness.

Fuji said his works were a representation of his family.

“I also featured the Batik Parang Patah motif in most of my works,” said Fuji, who lives in Klang.

One of his artworks called “Bimbingan” shows a mother hen and her two chicks juxtaposed with a floral bouquet to symbolise the love of a mother and her role in guiding her children.

This adorable piece was sold within days of the exhibition opening to the public.

Another unique artwork titled “Warna Diri” portrays an earnest person bravely facing various challenges.

His largest piece measuring 183cm x 306cm, also called “Margatulus”, sold for RM19,000 within a week.

Gary said Fuji was the first young artist to hold a solo art exhibition at the gallery.

“PreviousIy, I always looked to collaborate with famous and established artists because their works are higher in value and collectors can resell the art at a higher price.

“Already at a young age, Fuji has sold artworks worth over RM80,000. Therefore, we hired him as our resident artist.

“We also welcome collectors looking for artworks similar to Fuji’s,” said Gary.

The gallery recently held its 53rd art auction.

Fuji’s art exhibition will be held at KLAS, 150, Jalan Maarof, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, until Jan 10, from 10am to 7pm.
