READING the news on smartphones has become the norm as people want to keep abreast of latest happenings amid their busy schedules.

As such, The Star Online has proven to be a go-to source for verified news.

Maxvue Vision Sdn Bhd founder and chief executive officer Selvam Kanniah said smartphones had become part of people’s lifestyle.

“Each person has their own way of starting their morning.

“Apart from a hearty breakfast, I enjoy reading the news online and it has become an indispensable habit.

“The Star Online is my preferred choice as the news is sharp, crisp, to the point and serves the purpose for people on the go every day,” he said.

Selvam, who provided a sponsorship of RM10,000 to The Star ePaper for Students Programme 2023, said that when he visited The Star online, he could scroll easily for content, switch platforms and archive news articles for future reference.

“I find The Star Online platform is easy to read due to its reader-friendly interface.

“Digital content requires less space to hold a large amount of information and this allows me to store some good news articles.

“The online platform also allows readers to get a greater variety of news according to their interests,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maxvue Vision Sdn Bhd co-founder and business director Viji Ramasamy Pillai said The Star Online helped to keep her updated on news and other current events.

“It is important for me as a businesswoman to remain informed at all times,” said Viji, who is Selvam’s wife.

Maxvue Vision manufactures contact lenses. It offers a wide range of eye products, including coloured lenses, costume lenses or clear corrective lenses with prescription power.

The company has won several accolades, including the Export Excellence Award 2022 (Consumer Product SME Category), Anugerah Enterprise 50 (2022) (SME Corp Malaysia and Deloitte) and the Grand Winner for Malaysian Business of the Year (up to RM25mil turnover) at The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) 2019, where it also clinched the Best Global Market Platinum Award and Best in CSR Gold Award while Selvam won the Male Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Outstanding Achievement).

Viji said The Star ePaper was a sustainable approach in ensuring a better future.

“I get the best experience reading The Star ePaper because of its fluid layout,” said the entrepreneur who won Woman Exporter of the Year at the Export Excellence Award 2022.

Maxvue Vision Sdn Bhd also contributed RM20,000 towards the Star Foundation, the charity arm of Star Media Group (SMG).

SMG chairman Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung welcomed Selvam and Viji at a simple ceremony at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya, where mock cheques for both contributions were presented.

Also present was Star Media Group corporate special officer Loo Phan Kooi.

Selvam said the contribution was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts for the needy.

“Our company’s aim is to help the underprivileged. However, to embark on CSR initiatives is a challenge as it is time-consuming and due diligence is needed.

“We are glad to work with Star Media Group and contribute to Star Foundation to reach out to those in need.

“Our company has also been active in providing spectacles to pupils in Tamil schools with vision issues,” he added.

Since its establishment in 2004, Star Foundation has channelled RM20.8mil to support more than 360 charities.
