MORE than 200 additional parking bays will be built along Jalan Bunga Mawar 4, Taman Muda in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, once upgrading works are completed within the next six months.
The much-needed parking bays are being built as part of an ongoing upgrading and infrastructure maintenance project by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
MPAJ councillor Yew Jia Haur said the project costing RM1.4mil would comprise upgrading of drains and pedestrian walkways.
“This is a busy commercial area and upgrading works are necessary because of the high volume of motorists and visitors here.
“The lack of parking is a perennial issue and I hope this will help alleviate the situation,” he said during a site visit.
Only one tree would be cut down to make way for the project, with the rest remaining to provide ample shade on both sides of the road, he added.
Yew said he would also be sending a list of suggestions to MPAJ to further improve traffic and safety conditions in the area.
“In November 2019, traffic on Jalan Bunga Mawar 4 was changed from a two-way to one-way flow.
“It is now two years later and there are still many motorists who are not aware of the changes.
“I have proposed that MPAJ implement ‘one-way’, ‘no entry’ and other signs to alert drivers.
“Speed breakers or humps and pedestrian crossings are also needed once road works are completed,” he said.
The one-way street was introduced to ease traffic congestion on Jalan Bunga Mawar and Jalan Teratai 1/2.
Taman Muda shoplot joint management body (Block A) chairman Kelly Loh, however, expressed concern that residents would be forced to pay for parking once the parking bays were built.
“We have an understanding with MPAJ not to issue compounds to those parking by the side of the road as they are mostly residents living in units above the shoplots.
“Perhaps MPAJ can introduce a sticker pass to identify vehicles belonging to the owners,” she said.
