CONTENT and entertainment company Astro Malaysia Holdings brought festive joy to Star Media Group employees in Petaling Jaya, Selangor ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Astro Malaysia representatives visited Menara Star recently with some of their in-house talents, as well as a lion’s dance troupe to share the festive spirit.

Hitz FM Morning Crew radio announcer Anne Jacyntha, who hosted the event, also took the opportunity to talk about the movie Ma, I Love You, which is produced by Astro Shaw Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Astro.

The film is slated for release on Jan 22 in cinemas nationwide.

She said the storyline revolved around a single mother’s struggle with her daughter who wanted to run away from home.

Director Chiu Keng Guan and several cast members including Hazell Siow, Ong Ai Leng and Felina Cheah were among those who came to drum up excitement for the film.

Chiu said the movie was very localised and relatable.

“It is heartwarming and light-hearted.

“Viewers will shed tears but there will be laughter too,” he said.

Visiting from Astro this year were its group chief executive officer Henry Tan, group chief executive officer-designate Euan Smith, brand, communications and sustainability director Tammy Toh and Chinese customer business vice-president Wong Siah Ping.

From Star Media Group, chief executive officer Alex Yeow, chief business officer Lydia Wang, chief content officer Esther Ng and managing editor Brian Martin were on hand to welcome the entourage.

Star Media Group staff were entertained with a lion dance performance, comprising four dancers in two pink-themed lions.

There were also carnival-like games, which attracted a line of eager contestants who wanted to try their luck.

Those who succeeded took home Astro’s exclusive Wang Tu merchandise such as hand fan, ang pow and reusable bags.

Wang Tu, which is Astro’s Chinese New Year rabbit mascot for the year, also made an appearance at the event.
