CHINESE New Year blessings came early for almost 400 senior citizens aged 65 and above.

Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society handed out ang pow to representatives of four homes at the society’s complex in Jalan Macalister.

Its president Datuk Sim Ah Chye said RM7,460 was disbursed this year to 373 senior citizens.

“The red packets signify respect and gesture of filial piety.

“It is a sign of our love, care and blessings to the elderly during the festival, to wish them good health,” he said after handing out the ang pow.

Present to receive the red packets were Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged senior officer Tan Swee Gim, Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged administrator Hng Kok Chang, Relau Rumah Charis Bhd volunteer Yap Kon Pin and Little Sisters of The Poor volunteer Angeline Jeremiah.

Unlike previous years when residents of the homes would turn up to receive the red packets, only representatives were present this year in consideration of public health and safety. — By LO TERN CHERN
