Hikers wanting to enter Selangor’s eco-forest parks will soon be able to apply for permits online.
State tourism, environment, green technology and Orang Asli affairs committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said at the moment, the state did not provide online applications and hikers needed to obtain the permits manually.
“The state government will come up with an online version to make it easier for hikers, similar to the system now available in Pahang,” he said, adding that the online application should be ready by July this year.
At present, anyone who wants to enter eco-forest parks must obtain a permit from the nearest district forestry office, he said.
With Selangor eco-forest parks due to reopen on Feb 1, the state government has warned hikers to keep to marked trails and observe safety procedures.
“I advise hikers to avoid venturing off the beaten path.
“They should always stay alert and practise good judgement.
“Do let the forestry office know your route and estimated time of return,” he said.
Hee also advised hikers to be prepared for sudden weather changes.
“A downpour can lead to swollen rivers, making them unsafe to cross.
“Use your judgement and back track if this happens,” he said.
Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS) had closed all picnic spots, camping sites and recreational forests under its purview in December last year due to the monsoon season.
In a social media post on Jan 18, JPNS announced the re-opening of six eco-forest parks and hiking trails in Hulu Selangor Forest, Central Selangor Forest and Klang Coastal Forest.
The six eco-forest parks are Sg Tua, Sg Sendat, Sg Tekala, Commonwealth Park, Kota Damansara and Gunung Nuang,
It also stated that the services of mountain rangers or guides for Selangor covers 18 mountains and hills and hikers must have permits to access these locations.
The public can contact the Hulu Selangor Malim Association at 019-919 4471 or Selangor Forestry Rangers Association at 018-974 1651 for forestry guide services.
