Relocating DSAM for industry’s growth and direct selling regional support

Launch of DSAM new office.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Direct Selling Association of Malaysia (DSAM) relocated its corporate office to KL Eco City, Strata Office, Bangsar to strengthen its presence in the industry.

The larger and more technologically advanced office will enhance the association’s support to its current 136 member companies, membership growth and the permanent regional hub for the Direct Selling Associations throughout Asia.

DSAM is expected to welcome more direct selling companies to be members as it is a requirement under the conditions of the Direct Sales License (AJL) issued by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (MDT).

“DSAM will continue to collaborate with MDT as our strategic partnership to further enhance and propel the direct selling industry to greater heights.

“Direct selling has lived up to one of its great resilience to provide supplementary incomes especially during challenging times such as the pandemic Covid-19, as evidently seen in the double-digit industry growths in recent years.”, Datuk CG Tan, president of DSAM.

Sales turnover from the direct selling industry stood at RM27 billion in 2021, compared to RM25.7bil recorded in 2020.

The new DSAM office will also act as the permanent Secretariat for the Asian Federation of Direct Selling Associations (AFDSA). AFDSA currently consists of nine national Direct Selling Associations, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Korea and India. Being the permanent AFDSA Secretariat will further assist Malaysian direct selling companies to expand to Asian markets, as well as direct selling companies in Asia to explore setting up Direct Selling businesses in Malaysia.

Speaking on behalf of the MDT, its secretary general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said, “On behalf of the ministry, we are truly delighted with DSAM for taking this step.

“Collaborations with local associations such as DSAM will further enhance growth in local industries and provide entrepreneurial and income opportunities to all, both local and in the Asia region.

“The ministry also wishes to congratulate the direct selling industry on the significant sales increment for year 2021.”

In quarter four of 2022, MDT has collaborated with DSAM to host numerous members of the Korea Direct Selling Association on their exploratory trip to Malaysia to consider expanding their direct selling businesses in Malaysia.

DSAM is also a platinum member of the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), the highest honour accorded to a national Direct Selling Association by world’s body. All DSAM Members are abide and benchmarked against a globally endorsed Code of Ethics.
