Delivery of Penang hawker food expanding to more states

Teoh came up with the interstate delivery concept to support the hawkers in Penang.

PENANG hawker fare foodies residing in Ipoh, Melaka and even Johor may soon have their favourite food delivered right to their doorstep.

The founder of iOnefood.my, Gary Teoh, who came up with the concept to deliver authentic dishes from Penang to other states on the same day, hopes the service will take off soon.

Currently, this interstate service is only for those living in the Klang Valley.

Teoh hoped the programme would help support Penang hawkers to face the coming recession.

His social enterprise venture began after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. The pandemic badly affected the livelihood of hawkers and resulted in coffeeshops closing down.

Teoh set up the platform to help struggling hawkers and took steps to ensure food safety and customer satisfaction.

“Fast forward to 2023, and although tourists are slowly trickling back to Penang, the hawkers are still burdened with rentals and the rising cost of food preparation,” he said.

He highlighted that expanding the hawkers’ market reach would help them survive tough times.

“Zero commission for on- demand delivery using iOnefood will enable consumers to enjoy their favourite Penang dishes at lower cost even when they are unable to travel,” he said.

He added that the iOnefood.my platform also served to expose the lesser-known hawkers to the public by listing them alongside the more famous and popular ones.

The platform offers authentic Penang hawker food like char kuey teow, nasi kandar, chee cheong fun, lobak, prawn mee, white curry mee and laksa.
