The Lions Club of Damansara Kuala Lumpur has been celebrating the lunar new year with old folks and orphans for 25 years.
After a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the tradition was resumed with a 93-table luncheon held at SJK (C) Yuk Chai in Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya.
The event saw the attendance of more than 900 guests, including 400 old folks and children from 21 welfare homes in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Club president Gary Tang said Lions Club of Damansara Kuala Lumpur was a very active organisation with 68 volunteers.
“Since July 2022, we have completed more than 20 projects benefiting needy communities, to relieve hunger, improve education, environment and other areas,” he said.
Lions Clubs International District 308 B1 governor Dorothy Ong was the luncheon’s guest of honour.
The luncheon featured a sumptuous Chinese meal, lion dance and an appearance by the God of Prosperity.
For entertainment, there were traditional Chinese cultural performances in addition to an appearance by Mando-pop star Yao Yi.
Each of the 21 homes also received a donation of RM1,500.
Also present at the event were Lions Clubs International Multiple Districts council chairperson Kenny Low and 20 members from Singapore (Lions Club of Singapore Clarke Quay) and Indonesia (Lions Club of Jakarta Mutiara Prima).
