SETAPAK residents are unhappy about the congestion caused by motorists who park their vehicles on the road when patronising roadside food stalls along Jalan Sentul Pasar.
The residents said that vehicles, either belonging to the hawkers or customers, were parked at an angle thereby taking up one whole lane.
S. Kumar, 43, who lives in one of the condominiums nearby, said the vehicles would block one lane for those coming from Kepong or Batu Caves.
“Motorists travelling on the leftmost lane of Jalan Sentul Pasar are forced to squeeze into the remaining lanes because of the illegally parked cars,” he said.
He added that this sometimes caused a gridlock, especially during peak hours.
“It is also a lay-by for buses, so how can Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) allow the hawkers to trade here?” Kumar asked.
Sentul Point Condominium resident CK Tan, 39, said motorists should not park on the roadside as there were parking spaces in the commercial area nearby.
“It can be a nuisance especially when it is rush hour.
“Some hawkers leave the tents at the roadside when they are not operating. It is an eyesore,” he added.
During a visit by StarMetro, several hawkers were seen operating by the road kerb, although the area was meant for buses to park.
