WITH its fairy tale castle-themed backdrop, the family-oriented Mc.Qanteen Tearoom is the perfect place for families to enjoy a meal.
“It was my youngest daughter’s dream to dine in a castle-themed restaurant since she was five years old, so I made her dream a reality,” said co-founder Cindyi Chua.
In the restaurant, there are images of a family of rabbits as part of the decor. There are even two live rabbits on display.
“I love rabbits and I drew the images before digitising them onto a display board.
“I wanted to position the restaurant as a ‘school canteen’ which offers affordable high-tea sets for customers,” she said.
Mc.Qanteen Tearoom was initially a retail brand for a variety of tea, including traditional tea and fruit tea, before the restaurant in Lalaport, Kuala Lumpur, was launched.
Currently, the restaurant offers a range of hot and iced teas, pastries, cakes and Western food.
Priced from RM68, the high-tea set consists of crispy chicken sandwiches, curly fries, croissants, egg pancakes, rose tarts, yogurt parfait and kaya Swiss rolls.
“We alternate the pastries and snacks, incorporating pastries of different flavours.
“Customers can also opt for sandwiches in the tea set for a more filling meal,” she said.
The pastries are beautifully presented and have a balanced sweetness.
The bite-size rose tart with rose-flavoured cream topped with flower-shaped candy has a floral fragrance while the kaya Swiss rolls are spongy with a pleasant sweetness.
Meanwhile, the croissants are buttery and the egg pancakes do not disappoint either.
The crispy chicken sandwiches with a hint of spice are substantial and go well with the curly fries.
The tea set is best paired with the German Fruit Tea range that includes Creamy Raisin, Strawberry Lover, Pomecran Punch, Profusion Fruits, Mango Fusion and Peach Ice Cream.
The Pomecran punch that we tried, derives its flavour from pomegranates and cranberries. It is sour and it really stimulates the appetite.
“Our fruit teas are imported from Germany, where the fruits are dehydrated before being added to tea bags.
“It maintains its taste and transforms into refreshing beverages for our customers.
“We also offer classic and infusion teas as well as a wide variety of specialty cold teas,” she said.
The tea set is only available from 2pm to 5pm.
For a whole meal, try the Spicy Fragrant Seafood Pasta that has local flavours.
Served with prawns, mussels and squid, the spaghetti’s spicy, savoury sauce makes the dish appetising.
Other house specialties are Chicken Arrabiata spaghetti, Marinara seafood spaghetti, grilled chicken chop and fish and chips.
