WITH artworks depicting scenes from memories and experiences, artist Puan Sri Sharifah Aziah Ben Yahya's first solo exhibition is akin to a trip down the memory lane.
"Most of the artworks that I created on various mediums are based on the sights and scenery that captured my eyes.
"It documents my experiences and the memories of places I have been to, a beach, the waves, and the sea for example," she said.
Titled "Reflections", the art exhibition is open to the public from Feb 20 to 26 at KLGCC Resort, The International Gallery, Jalan Bukit Kiara 1, Kuala Lumpur.
The exhibition offers visitors a glimpse of Aziah’s colourful life, inspired by all the different phases of her life, made rich and whimsical through her travels and experiences.
She is also one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to be under the tutelage of the portrait master, Hossein Enas.
"Having my inaugural solo exhibition is a dream come true for me.
"I have always thought organising a solo exhibition is a difficult task but somehow, everything comes together.
"I am very happy to see this dream materialised," said the 71-year-old artist, who is also a fashion designer.
Sharifah Aziah also revealed that one of the artworks that were used as a promotional image for the exhibition is the most precious artwork that she had created.
It is an image of a bridge over a stream with greenery surrounding it.
"Everyone asks me if I got the inspiration from Hyde Park or another park overseas but in fact, it was the bridge at Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden.
"The reflections from water, the bridge is something that I see at the end of my walk there at the park, absolutely beautiful scene," she said adding, that the picture is not for sale.
"The picture is also a fond memory I had with my father who often brought me and my four other siblings to lake gardens in the 1950s.
"Those days when there were no televisions, that's where we hang out and I would scribble the scenery on the newspaper at the lake garden.
"It was when my dad realised my passion for drawing, he bought me actual art tools for me to draw," she said.
Visitors can expect more than 40 artworks from various mediums such as oil painting, watercolour, acrylic and soft pastel.
The art exhibition will be officiated by Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud on Feb 21.
